The Berkshire Hills is a place of great natural beauty with over 200 years of history in its charming New England villages. There are concerts and plays, museums and dance performances, antique hunting and galleries, boutiques and fine restaurants for lunch and dinner. There is hiking and biking, river and lake canoeing, golf, tennis and skiing, all centered around Stockbridge. And there is nothing that compares to our New England foliage colors in October.

During the summer Tanglewood, home of the Boston Symphony, also host the Boston Pops, and offer programs that are legendary among summer outdoor concert goers. A visit to the Norman Rockwell Museum will delight you in being able to see his original painting in their up-close magnificence.

The Berkshire Theater Festival offers the tops in summer stock.

Chesterwood, the summer home and studio of Daniel Chester French, the sculptor of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D. C. , also features his workshop, home , grounds and museum. At Hancock Shaker Village, once the home of a major Shaker "family", one can tour the 3-story Brick Dwelling with its kitchens, work rooms and meeting rooms, the Trustees House and the ingenious round stone barn, which is still home to a herd of dairy cows. The shop features Shaker crafts.

Jacobs Pillow Dance Festival deep in the Becket woods offers an impressive season of performances by the top modern dance ensembles in the world. Guided tours of writer Edith Wharton's summer home, The Mount are offered in this turn-of-the-century mansion, where the restored formal garden is open, plus there are three other historic homes open to view right in Stockbridge village.

Gardeners will not want to miss the Berkshire Botanical Garden, stimulating in spring, summer and fall. The herb and perennial gardens are outstanding. For walkers and hikers, we have prepared a list of nearly thirty hikes and woodland trails, several beginning from our cottage. To relax late in the afternoon, plan to have a drink on the porch of the famous Red Lion Inn, on the corner where all roads meet in Stockbridge.
